A stressful work place will make you want to run away and sit on the toilet for 45 minutes. It will also make you feel awful and dread every single day you show up to the office. I’ve been there before and it isn’t fun. How can you overcome a very stressful environment so you’re not taking the stress home? 1.  Breathe! Take a break, take deep breaths, relax 💆‍♀️, and calm down.
2.  Keep a journal. ✍🏽 Write about the stress throughout the day and how you reacted to the stress. This will help with managing the stress as well as finding out what the key triggers are.
3.  Take a walk. 🚶🏽‍♂️This helped me big time when I was dealing with high stress at work. Especially when the sun is shining serotonin is amazing for you and is known to turn any mood around.
4.  Sometimes you just have to say 🗣 NO. You can’t do everything and if it’s going to push you over edge say no.
5.  Accountability partner. Having someone to talk to or just vent to! This could be family member or friend and is very helpful while trying to manage stress. 💙
6.  Talk with your supervisor. If it’s the work load that’s making you stress than it’s time to address that. No one can perform at their best when they’re under a lot of pressure with no help. Remember stress is the leading cause of almost all life style diseases!

mentalhealthsupport On Tuesday I have an interview for a new job.
It's in mental health and I'd be working to help people get the best out of their lives and get them wanting to do things again.
It's perfect for someone like me.
But... I'm terrified.
It a group interview to start with then by lunchtime they tell you if you've been successful for the afternoon 1:1 interview.
I'm not good in groups and sitting in a classroom.
I want to help people so badly but I'm afraid my own anxiety about that area will stop me dead.
Last time I was able to sit in a room with people for longer than 15 minutes was back in 2015.
Also if they offer me a 1:1 interview I have to disclose that I'm waiting on surgery for my uterus.
That could jeopardize the job.
It really effects my abdomen too, scrunging up, painful, making noises, I get so embarrassed and it gives me full on panic and makes it worse.
I'm 25 and my life has stopped so short, I want my own place and to feel some freedom and independence again.
But I'm afraid I'll go and have a panic attack in the room.
Or I'll go and not get the job and feel a huge disappointment again and be stuck in a place I cry in so much.
Sorry for the rant. I needed to vent.

mentalhealthsupport Writing about my sister’s death has proved harder than expected. I thought I was more ready. This might be my final post for this series. Maybe I’ll be “more ready” next year.

The thing about suicide is that it fucks up the minds of the people left behind. One person escapes their mind, but passes the weight along to their family and friends. I think about how selfish she was. Then I remember how sick she was, too. I repeat over and over again that mental health is nuanced. I think about our dad a lot. The guilt I hold on my shoulders must be amplified tenfold for him. His eldest daughter dead by choice. Is suicide a choice? Is suicide the only choice when you get to that point? If there’s one thing I know that’s true in this world is that my dad is a great father. He doesn't deserve this guilt. It’s hard to tell someone it’s not their fault when in grief all they can see are their faults. He may not have been the perfect husband to Kat’s mom or mine, but I know with certainty that he is an amazing dad. Protective, helpful, safe, supportive, honest, hardworking, always there for us no matter what.

Protective.

He told me not to fly home my morning my sister killed herself. He said I should stay south with my friends and come home on schedule. I listened.

My friend and I left our hotel and went to Denny’s for breakfast. I remember what I ate that morning. Over easy eggs and hash browns with Louisiana hot sauce. I broke the yokes with my fork so that the hot sauce melted into them. I saw blood. I could only manage a few bites.

Because I know how Kat died, I still see her blood. I am no longer numb.

While we were estranged but before she died, I would see her in unusual places. Like the grocery store near my house when I lived in Cleveland. Kat lived in Ontario at the time. There was this tall, thin brunette woman with long straight hair that I followed around the store for a good 5 minutes trying to see more than her back or profile. There are many tall, thin brunette women that I would discretely follow.

When she died, I stopped noticing brunette women in supermarkets or walking down the street. I wish so badly that I still did. #mentalhealthawareness

Recovering from trauma can feel like you're trapped in a dark place. I remember I didn't want to be on my own but I didn't want to be with anyone else either. I'd be at work and I wouldn't be able to hold it together and so I just kept going to the toilets to cry. I felt so alone. Being stuck in your head, not being able to control how you feel and not knowing how or when it would get better is terrifying. ⠀

And so today I'm reaching out to all you queens 👑 out there who are trying to live with trauma because I want you to know that you are not alone. It might be hard now but you can heal and you can thrive. Your trauma will not define you, it will simply become part of you. mentalhealthsupport For me, attending Church is just a little over an hour of showing gratitude and praise. Is my anxiety a curse or a gift? It’s the way you choose to believe. I don’t particularly like how I feel when I get anxious, but looking on the bright side is that I also feel like when my mind is racing, I am being very cautious! 🤷🏻‍♀️ There is no such thing as praying my anxiety away, but God made smart people who invented medications and therapists to help with it. 😊 And this is part of my #selfcaresunday routine.

šeit es sevi dziedēju. es vairākas reizes šeit esmu minējusi, ka apmeklēju terapiju. es par to biju domājusi ilgi, taču nekad īsti nebija iespējas, un es nejutos “pietiekami slikti”. iepriekšējā gada augustā es sapratu, ka tas laiks ir pienācis. es nesen biju mainījusi darbu, un manā prātā sāka šiverēt tumšas, uzmācīgas domas, tāpēc es metu kaunu pie malas un lūdzu palīdzību. es vienu reizi nedēļā apmeklēju psihoterapeitu. es ķidāju savu bērnību, savas domas, jūtas un emocijas. es runāju par savām tumšajām domām un emocionālajām eksplozijām. es runāju par šodien notiekošo, un es mācos veselīgus veidus, kā tikt galā ar ikdienu. man ir droša un atbalstoša vide, kurā runāt par skumjām, zaudējumiem un dusmām. un es mācos to, ka man ir tiesības uz manām jūtām - tieši ar šo man visu mūžu iet diezgan grūti. jā, tas ir smagi, bet tas ir absolūti nepieciešams.

mentalhealthsupport yesterday i heard my boyfriend say that you never seem to hear anyone talk about rejection or failure. when you’re rejected, it seems shocking since judging from what is around, everyone seems to get it just right on the first try, effortlessly. rejection is such a natural thing to experience, inherent to life, yet nobody talks about it.
actually, people almost never get their dream job on the first try. businesses almost never take off within the first few months. new parents feel like they’re failing. parents of not so newborn children feel like they’re failing. achieving goals is often “one step forward, two steps back”. actors apply for jobs and get rejected a hundred times. adoptions fall through.
and actually that’s okay. it happens to every one of us. screw perfectly curated lives. the human experience is to feel every color of the spectrum. 🌈 (and also, what is meant for you will never miss you.)

mentalhealthsupport not sure how we’re already at the fourth month of the year but okay 🤔
april’s here, so as every month i’ve set some intentions as little guideposts for myself to return to as the month goes forward. i don’t have very much energy nowadays so keeping it simple this time.
1. soak up the sun, literally and metaphorically. and in case april’s full of rain - april showers bring may flowers 💐.
2. be loving towards myself, mainly stop with the effing self criticism. i’m always doing the best i can, and i have good reasons if it doesn’t always seem so.
3. get my blog up & running. this one’s been in the works for a while now, and i’m very excited to start writing again. i wish myself a lot of courage for this.
4. trust the universe - synchronicities happen all the time, whether positive or negative. and everything really is all being fine knitted together towards what i need. i’ll see it later if i don’t see it now.
5. grow in self-confidence - but not the fake kind, inflated by outside factors, which can just as easily be blown away by a mean word. real self-confidence comes from within. from becoming comfortable with who you are. and allowing everyone else to be exactly who they are, too.
